Hideyo Harada, piano

Franz Schubert's last piano sonata, D 960, completed two months before his death, opens up a world of such intensity that had hardly been depicted before. The composer creates a panorama of the soul of almost dizzying depth and emotional expanse. There is no doubt about it: here, the listener sees before his inner eye a landscape that tells of the "Last Things", that tells of mild resignation and deep mourning, as well as illuminating longings and offering gentle consolation.

A few years later, the Austrian writer Adalbert Stifter describes similar experiences with the same urgency in the story "A Walk through the Catacombs" when visiting the burial chambers under Vienna's St. Stephen's Cathedral.

Hideyo Harada, who has already released a highly acclaimed CD recording of the Schubert Sonata, and Stifter connoisseur and lover Christian Brückner, whose love for the poet was already evident in his audio books "Abdias", "Brigitta" and "Der beschriebene Tännling", create this musical-literary dialogue of timeless validity and topicality.
